Glory break Melbourne's heart

MELBOURNE Heart travelled to Perth undefeated, but went away humbled after suffering a 2-0 defeat to Glory at nib Stadium.

Goals to Dean Heffernan and Billy Mehmet, both from corners, sealed the result for the hosts who dominated much of the game.

Their first, to Heffernan after 38 minutes, came from Liam Miller's inswinging corner from the left that eluded Michael Marrone's attempted clearance, who took a wild swing at the ball.

What followed were some spiteful incidents, with Glory's Michael Thwaite and Jacob Burns, and Heart's Dylan Macallister all earning cautions.

Glory's Travis Dodd was a constant menace, and could have had a goal in the 77th minute.

He turned cleverly in the penalty box, only to fire his shot straight at a relieved Clint Bolton.

But eight minutes later, Mehmet wrapped up the victory for his side.

Miller whipped in another inswinging corner and Mehmet's glancing header left Bolton grasping at thin air as it flew into the far corner.

Glory's win lifted them to equal first on the premiership ladder with Adelaide United.
