Movie tickets to help flood victims

TWEED coast residents can do their bit for flood victims by catching a movie this weekend.

On January 30, $2 from every ticket sold at Event Cinema Robina, Birch Carroll and Coyle Coolangatta and AMC Tweed City will go to help flood victims.

The cinemas have joined forces with national cinema operators and distributors to raise money for the relief effort.

Event Cinemas and Birch Carroll and Coyle film marketing manager, Belinda Kite said both companies had employees in the affected areas.

“We're just trying to do our little bit, we have cinemas in Toowoomba and a lot of our cinemas are based in regional areas, so it has affected us personally too.”

In 2005, film distributors and cinema exhibitors raised $440,000 in a single morning for CARE Australia's Tsunami Appeal and again in 2008 for the Victorian bushfires.

Eighty per cent of funds raised will go to the Premier's Disaster Relief Appeal and 20 per cent to the Red Cross Disaster Relief and Recovery Fund.
