Gold Coast mum dies after alleged bashing in car

A WOMAN alleged to have been brutally bashed by her former bikie partner on the Gold Coast on Tuesday has died in hospital.

Tara Brown, 24, suffered critical head injuries.

Following her death in hospital late on Wednesday, her former partner had his attempted murder charge upgraded to murder.

Tara Brown's estranged partner, former Bandido Lionel Patea, also 24, was charged after he allegedly ran the mother of his young daughter off the road in suburban Molendinar and bashed her with a metal object while she was trapped in the car.

The incident came less than a week after the young mother sought a domestic violence order against him, following a volatile, on and off relationship.

Gold Coast Criminal Investigation Branch Detective Inspector Brian Swan said Mr Patea was charged at a bedside hearing at the Gold Coast University Hospital, where he was admitted on Tuesday with stab wounds believed to have been self-inflicted.

He has been remanded in custody.
