Gold coast light rail by 2013

GOLD Coasters have been promised an $894 million light rail system from Southport to Broadbeach by 2013, although there remain nagging doubts about a significant funding shortfall.

Federal Treasurer Wayne Swan was on the tourist strip on Saturday to give the project the green light after dedicating $365 million of Federal money through Tuesday's budget.

The 13-kilometre rail line will service Southport to Broadbeach 24-hours a day, seven days a week, linking major hospitals, schools and retail outlets, with an expected completion date of 2013.
