Good times with new single

KINGSCLIFF singer-songwriter Casey Barnes released his latest single last week.

By Friday, the song had already been performed on live TV and been picked up by several radio stations.

Hard Times, which Barnes penned with good friend and songwriting partner Rick Price, was recorded in Nashville last year and mixed with Grammy Award-winner Jason Lehning.

"So far (the response) has been really good, especially from radio," Barnes said.

"We've sent the single out to all the main radio stations around the country.

"Quite a lot are adding it.

"That's terrific to get positive feedback from them."

Barnes said he barely had one day's notice of a slot on Channel Seven's The Morning Show, and he jumped at the chance to perform his new material.

"I literally jumped straight on a plane, flew down to Sydney and performed it the next day," he said.

"It's got a good response on iTunes, especially after the performance on The Morning Show.

Hard Times tells the story of a man who had been heartbroken by a woman who couldn't reciprocate his love.

"He's got his heart broken by this girl who's messed him around but everywhere he turns, she's still there," he said.

"It was a lot fun to record that one.

"A lot of times I write songs that are from real experiences, but this one really wasn't like that.

"It was just a general thing a lot of people can relate to."

Barnes said the film clip for the single had already been recorded and would be released in the coming weeks.

But he's taken no rest from writing new material.

"That'll be the next step, to record some new music," he said.

He said he was still buzzing with excitement after supporting Mariah Carey at A Day on the Green last November.

"I'm hoping to maybe build on that again," Barnes said.

Barnes said that had hopefully opened up some new doors for him.

He was also recently announced as a new ambassador for Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary, alongside sport stars Sally Pearson and Kelly Slater.

"That's something I'm really excited about," Barnes said.

"They help thousands and thousands of animals every year.

"It's amazing to see the work they do.

"It's something I'm really happy to be affiliated with."

The role meant raising awareness of the sanctuary's work through his public profile.

"A lot of the general public don't realise how much they rely on fundraisers," he said.

He will be performing at the Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary annual charity ball later this year.

"That's one of their major fundraisers for the whole year," Barnes said.

Aside from putting out new material, Barnes will be busy on the touring circuit in the coming months.

Next month he will head to Urban Country Music Festival in Caboolture, before performing at Metricon Stadium for the Gold Coast Suns vs Collingwood game.

Soon afterwards, Barnes will play two afternoon sets on the main stage of the Broadbeach Country Music Festival, on June 20 and 21.

In July, he will play at Centenary Rocks Festival in Queensland - and he said there would be more festival shows to be announced.
