Government quiet on IPART council merger report

NSW Local Government Minister Paul Toole refuses to say whether the results of an audit into councils' financial viability would be released in a week, a fortnight or a month.

The Independent Pricing and Regulatory Tribunal is due to hand over its Fit for the Future report on Friday.

But how long it takes for its findings to go public is anyone's guess.

A spokeswoman would not reveal whether local communities would wait a month or more to learn of their council's financial status - only that the results would be published after Cabinet consideration.

"No decision has been made on the future of any individual council," Mr Toole said in a statement.

"The results of the IPART assessment are due in mid-October and I look forward to seeing this report."
