GP clinic edging closer
PLANS for the new $7million Tweed Heads GP super clinic are moving forward, with the department of Health and Ageing entering into negotiations with their preferred applicant Ausjendia Pty Ltd.
Richmond MP Justine Elliot said the new facility, which will include general practice, nurses and allied health specialists, is getting closer to reality.
“The super clinic is on the way. Ausjendia is a group of local doctors who have worked here for many years and know the area extremely well,” Mrs Elliot said.
“The super clinic will take the pressure off our hospitals; it will focus on training and education for medical, nursing and health students and will be a major site for GP regi- strar training.
“In terms of a specific location that is an issue that cannot be discussed at this stage, but we are very excited to announce the next stage of this project.”
Dr Blanckensee, from Ausjendia Pty Ltd, thanked the community for its ongoing support.
“This is an issue the community has talked about for many years and I know our local GPs have a lot of support in the community,” Dr Blanckensee said.
“Obviously it is going to take some time and we are not sure exactly what the timing will be, but it will be a little more than a year.”
