South Grafton man jailed over threat to kill
A SOUTH Grafton man who threatened to cut the throats of a man and a woman as they slept has been sentenced to 15 months jail.
Clarence Edward Drew, 52, faced District Court in Grafton on Monday pleading guilty to a charge of being armed to commit an indictable offence.
The police statement said Drew attended a house in Robina Way where long-standing tensions bubbled over.
In the early hours of the morning he unleashed a foul tirade of abuse at a family member and his partner living inside.
He left but returned three times to deliver more of the same.
Eventually he entered the home and found a man and a woman asleep on a mattress.
He held a large knife to the neck of the man and said "see how easy it is".
A scuffle ensued as the man awoke, fearing he would be stabbed.
Drew left, but returned, waving a golf club and making further threats.
He was sentenced to 15months jail from March 6, with a nine-month non-parole period.
