Grand Theft Auto V’s midnight Tweed launch
GRAND Theft Auto V is set to be released at midnight tonight, with stores around the country gearing up for its release.
Tweed City's EB Games store has been making preparations for the release of the game - estimated to be the most expensive game ever, produced and marketed for a staggering $265 million.
Store manager Anieka Parry said while EB Games will be reopening tonight from 10pm, they will not be selling Grand Theft Auto V until midnight.
Ms Parry said the newest edition of Grand Theft Auto has been seven years in the making.
"We've been taking pre-orders since 2008," Ms Parry said.
The game's production company, Rockstar, is believed to have already made back the $264 million in pre-orders.
"The last Grand Theft Auto release was a top selling game," Ms Parry said.
As the game is rated R18+, Ms Parry said the store is unable to offer previews of the game in-store.
"We might be auctioning some of the posters, and trying to keep it fun," Ms Parry said.
Ms Parry said it wasn't surprising for a video game to have a budget larger than many films, after the release of popular first-person-shooter Call of Duty Black Ops 2 attracted the most sales of any entertainment production.
