Grave concerns for man missing a week
GRAVE concerns are held by the friends and family of a man who went missing from the Tweed last Wednesday.
Those close to Jesse Southam-Marsh said he left no trace as he vanished from a Tomewin residence on foot at around 3.30pm.
Tweed-Byron police were alerted shortly after, issuing a missing persons report and sweeping the area surrounding Tomwein Rd with SES officers on Sunday.
Kingscliff Fish Chips and Burgers cafe owner Tracie Radecki said it was "completely out of character” for the the 23-year-old to go missing, particularly because he was mid-way through painting a series of commissioned sea-themed murals at the restaurant.
"He is a responsible young man, he always told us where he was at,” Ms Radecki said.
"He would always park his van here at Kingscliff; go for a surf, and we'd give him a feed after his surf, playing the mummies.
"We loved him so much - he has a beautiful, giving soul, and it's so unusual for Jesse to disappear like this.”
Friend Skylee Berghofer said she had driven around Tweed looking for Mr Southam-Marsh, and hoped he could make himself known to authorities as soon as possible.
"Someone's missing, someone's life is on the line,” Ms Berghofer said, adding she planned to search for him if he did not return by this weekend.
Andrew Chester said he last saw his partner on Wednesday morning, before he went out to a Tomewin property with other friends.
"I miss him so much,” Mr Chester said. "He said he was going to get coffee and he didn't come back and he left his van keys and licence under my pillow.”
Mr Southam-Marsh's father Dallas Southam-Marsh of Redland Bay said he spent yesterday afternoon combing the Tweed Coast looking for his son.
"I have blisters on my feet. But all I care about is Jesse,” Mr Southam-Marsh said.
"The effect this has had on my family, it's not something you would ever wish upon anyone else.
"We all want him safe and well.”
Tweed-Byron LAC police Crime Manager Brendon Cullen said police were investigating the missing person's case.
"We're doing a number of investigative things to locate him and given the circumstances of his disappearance we're concerned for him,” Det Ins Cullen said.
"His last sighting was on Tomewin Rd.
"We would appeal for anyone with information to contact us.”
When he was last seen, Jesse was wearing a grey jacket, a blue T-shirt with a logo on front and board shorts.
Jesse is described as being of Caucasian appearance, 150cm tall, with sandy brown unwashed shoulder length hair and is unshaven.
Police are urging anyone with information in relation to this incident to call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or use the Crime Stoppers online reporting page: https://nsw.crimestoppers.com.au/
