Greens launch tilt at harbour

THE Greens candidates for the upcoming Tweed council election in September plan to bring in party big guns to help launch their tilt.

NSW Greens MLC David Shoebridge will speak at the launch of the Greens campaign on Thursday in Tweed Heads.

Mr Shoebridge has been a member of the legislative council since 2010 and is the spokesman for the Greens on planning and heritage, local government and justice.

Lead candidate for the Greens and Tweed Councillor Katie Milne said the Greens believed people wanted more sustainable planning for the future.

"People have told us the things that are important to them are long term planning, better community and cultural facilities and sustainable economic development," Cr Milne said.

"They also want to feel that they're in safe hands, that councillors are going to really represent them and not be influenced too much by the big end of town.

"We want to see Tweed Heads and Murwillumbah become cultural centres that offer a liveable experience for locals and also support a strong local economy."

The launch is from 2pm on Thursday at Jack Evan's Boat Harbour.
