Greens promise to fund more abortion options

THE Greens have promised $15 million to improve women's options to get an abortion, including through public hospitals.

Senator Larissa Waters said the policy would also involve a review of Medicare rebates to help cover the out-of-pocket expenses of abortions and obtain more accurate data to learn how much demand there was for the medical procedure.

"There are only three private abortion clinics north of the Sunshine Coast, leaving women in some rural Queensland areas to travel over 1000km or up to eight hours," she said.
