Grinch gang takes toys

THIEVES who stole about $15,000 worth of toys from Toy World have been compared to the Grinch who stole Christmas.

Owner of the South Tweed store John Atwood said he cannot believe someone would break into their warehouse barely a month before Christmas.

“It’s a low act,” Mr Atwood said.

“Especially this close to Christmas and with the recession as well”.

“I probably won’t be able to get the stuff that’s been pinched before Christmas.”

Mr Atwood said about $15,000 worth of stock was stolen from their South Tweed Heads warehouse in Corporation Circuit.

The cold-hearted robbery took place between 3pm on Thursday and 8am yesterday morning. “They mostly took toys, swing sets and bikes.

“I still have to assess the extent of the damage.

“I believe it was a professional job because they cut the phone lines to the whole complex.”

Mr Atwood said he doubted people would try to sell the stolen goods in the area.

“They were mainly common toys which were stolen, so they will be hard to identify,” he said.

“But our bikes and swing sets have a Sports World branding, which is only sold in Toy World.”

Tweed Police are appealing to anyone with information about the toy warehouse robbery to contact the Tweed Heads Police Station on (07) 5536 0999 or Crime Stoppers on 1300 333 000.
