Gunman on the run

A MAN who held up Coffs Harbour's United Petroleum service station armed with a gun on Thursday night disguised his identity by wearing a 'Scream' mask.

The armed offender confronted the service station attendant at the counter just before midnight and reportedly pulled a firearm from underneath his jacket.

Coffs Harbour police said the man demanded cash from the register and then insisted on taking money from the wallet of the employee before fleeing east along Harbour Dr towards the Jetty strip.

A hold-up alarm was activated and police responded to the scene moments later.

A search of the area was conducted, but the offender was not found.

Closed circuit security camera tape of the armed robbery showed the man dressed in a blue rain jacket, wearing blue gloves, black pants, white joggers and wearing a Halloween-type mask.

Police said the man was described as being between 170-175cm tall and it was believed he may have had a dark complexion.

Anyone with information surrounding this crime, or who may have witnessed the incident should call Coffs Harbour Police via Crimestoppers on 1800 333 000.
