Uki pub has been ransacked after devastating fire

IF ANYONE knows what it's like to be kicked when you're down its Geoff and Lexie Brown.

The Mt Warning Hotel publicans have been doing it tough since the pub was gutted by fire five weeks ago. Thieves have gone in and looted what little was left.

"People got in and took the hoppers (coins) from the (poker) machines," Mr Brown said.

"We couldn't get in because all the keys were burnt."

But the criminals used a tool to wedge open the doors.

The poker machines had been cleared of notes but the thieves still got away with a substantial amount of coins.

"It doesn't make you feel real good," the publican said.

"It's bad enough my pub burnt down... they really know how to kick you while you're down."

Also stolen was the remaining alcohol not claimed by the blaze.

Mr Brown said his front door licensee plaque was also taken.

"I don't know if one of the local lads has taken it down for me but I want it back."

Since the blaze the Browns have lived off their savings with the insurance claim pending finalisation.

"It's all still tangled up with the insurance people.

"Hopefully it won't take too long."
