Gympie teen snags role in Sydney fireworks spectacular

A GYMPIE teenager's hobby has scored her a star role in the biggest fireworks spectacular in Australia this New Year's Eve.

Tiffany Hughes, 14, has her mum to thank for spotting a Telstra competition on Facebook that encouraged school students across the country to design a piece of art to be incorporated in the iconic fireworks display on Sydney Harbour.

Using colours of Aussie football codes as her inspiration, Tiffany got to work.

Entry was simple - she just had to snap a picture on her phone and upload it to the Telstra Facebook page.

She was getting ready for work last week when her mum received the call to say she had won.

"I was pretty shocked - I didn't think I could actually win," Tiffany said

"But I have always loved drawing and I thought, What could be more Australian than footy colours?"

Tiffany and her family were flown to Sydney this week and given VIP tickets to watch her piece come to life tonight (Tuesday).
