Hackers target Qld LNP site

RUSSIAN hackers have targeted Queensland’s Liberal National Party website forcing the opposition to close lnp.org.au.

On Wednesday night, logged-in Google account holders were warned malicious software had been downloaded and installed on a computer without the user’s permission after they had visited the site.

A diagnostic page stated the malicious software was hosted from a Russian domain.

Google tested 15 pages within the LNP site but only one caused malicious software to be downloaded from lnp.org.au. The site had not been used to host the software.

Users who made it the LNP homepage were told it was under maintenance and told to call the party's Brisbane headquarters.

LNP staff say they are aware of the problem and attempting to fix it.

They could not say how long the maintenance would take.

Further comment is being sought.
