Hand-made lanterns for festival parade
HUNDREDS of handmade lanterns will “LightnUp” tonight's Tweed River Festival.
The Lights on the Harbour lantern parade and fireworks spectacular will wrap up the day's festivities at Jack Evans Boat Harbour.
Elly Bird from LightnUp in Lismore said school kids from all over the Tweed Shire have been busy all week making and decor- ating lanterns.
“There are about 300 lanterns made bylocal kids,” Ms Bird said.
“And we'll have a decorating workshop on the day.”
The workshops run from 3.30pm to 5pm and are $10 per lantern.
“They are mostly aimed at kids, but adults are welcome to do one also.
“For the parade we will walk along the edge of Jack Evans Boat Harbour at 7.30pm and everyone gets to hold their own lantern.
“They also get to keep their lanterns.”
Ms Bird said they are still looking forcarriers to hold their big lanterns, including a giant boot.
“Our big Mother Hubbard boot is about two-and-a-half metres high and three metres long,” she said.
“And we have a really big range of fish to fit in with the water theme.
“Plus the usual elephant.”
