Happier times for Hurrell at Titans

KONRAD Hurrell has taken a veiled swipe at his former club the Warriors ahead of his new team the Gold Coast's clash against the Rabbitohs at nib Stadium in Perth.

Hurrell has been named on an extended bench against South Sydney tomorrow, but only as he learns the attacking systems at his new club.

Titans coach Neil Henry has made it clear he wants the 24-year-old playing in his favoured position of centre in the coming weeks.

Hurrell said it was a different message to the one he received from coaching staff at the under-performing Warriors, where he was used in an unfamiliar bench role this season.

"Coming to the club where the coach says he wants me here and he will bring the best out in me, that makes me a lot happier," he said.

"If anyone is not happy they will never play to their potential. For me, when I'm relaxed and happy, that's when I play good."

Hurrell said he always wanted to stay at the Warriors even when there were strong rumours he was being shopped to the Titans.

The ever-smiling jokester had become a cult hero in his time at the New Zealand club, with over 100,000 followers on Instagram.

"At the start of pre-season I was happy and training hard and I knew where I needed to get to because that was what the coaching staff were telling me," Hurrell said.

"I got to play All Stars and that was massive and one of the highlights of my career, to play amongst those legends.

"After that I didn't play a couple of games and I was still all right and then I finally got the chance and got to play in the middle and I was happy just to be playing.

"But moving on from there I knew it would take me a while to get into centre so mentally I was pretty shut down."

It appears the Tongan international is now re-invigorated with his move to the glitter strip.
