Harley rider dies in collision

POLICE are investigating the circumstances surrounding a fatal crash that occurred about 2.40pm on Saturday at Tumbulgum.

Mark Murphy, 45 from Mudgeeraba died following a collision between his Harley-Davidson motorcycle and a Mitsubishi Triton towing a boat.

Just after 2.40pm, emergency services were called to Riverside Drive.

Officers attached to Tweed-Byron Local Area Command discovered the motorcyclist was located on the road with critical injuries.

Paramedics failed to detect a pulse and commenced CPR, continuing to administer it as he was conveyed by ambulance to Tweeds Heads Hospital.

Mr Murphy was pronounced dead on arrival.

The Ballina Crash Investigation Unit undertook a full examination of the crash scene.

The 47-year-old male driver of the Triton was taken to Murwillumbah Hospital for mandatory blood and urine tests.

He and his 14-year-old passenger were not injured in the incident.

Police said they will now prepare a report for the Coroner.
