Harris makes way for SBW

SONNY Bill Williams has been added to the Kiwis 24-man squad for the rugby league World Cup in place of Melbourne's Tohu Harris.

Williams (pictured) had earlier backtracked on his decision to skip the tournament that begins later this month to focus on "other commitments" and declared himself available.

The 28-year-old had a change of heart and advised Kiwis coach Stephen Kearney he wanted to play in the World Cup and left NZRL officials and selectors scrambling to work out what they were going to do.

"It's been a tough situation but Sonny brings things to the group that we couldn't ignore," Kearney said.

It was a tough call on the 21-year-old Harris, who made his Kiwis debut in this year's Anzac Test.

"As you would expect, I'm very disappointed not to be heading to the World Cup to represent my country, New Zealand," Harris said. "I was very much looking forward to going however I understand the decision that has been made and hope I get another opportunity to play for the Kiwis in the future."
