Have your say on water cuts

WHILE the rain may be putting a dampener on summer at the moment, Tweed Shire Council is taking precautionary measures for when drought inevitably hits the shire.

The council has revised the water restrictions it would implement in a drought and is asking for community feedback.

Demand management program leader Elizabeth Seidl said the restrictions have been expanded and described in greater detail.

"They identify a greater number of measures to curb water use during a drought, to share the burden and help achieve targets for reduced water consumption," Ms Seidl said.

Greater emphasis has been put on being consistent with restrictions across the border, complying with NSW Water Directorate guidelines, and enabling businesses and commercial premises to continue operating as normal for as long as possible.

Copies of the draft water restrictions and a fact sheet are available to view at the council's customer offices in Murwillumbah and Tweed Heads, as well as the libraries in Kingscliff, Tweed Heads and Murwillumbah.

They can also be viewed on the council website.
