Having a ball, school gets kitted out for sport
BANORA Point Public School students will be having a ball thanks to the Coles Sports for Schools 2012 program.
More than $5000 worth of sports equipment was donated to the school, including footballs, protective gear, hurdle sets and baseball gloves, thanks to members of the school community collecting shopping reward vouchers.
Banora Point Public School principal Dean Files said the school was grateful to receive the equipment, especially because their own budget was so tight.
"It's been a wonderful boost to the sporting program, the students and teachers were very happy about it," he said.
"The kids are really keen."
Coles Banora Point store manager, Clinton Brabant was thrilled to see the program gather momentum so quickly.
"Last year olympic fever really took off in our community, it was so great to see so many customers donating their vouchers to Banora Point Public School," he said.
"We can't wait to see the next generation of champion athletes from New South Wales."
Coles Sports for Schools program co-ordinator Sue McArthur was pleased to see the initiative receive such spectacular support in the Tweed community.
The program has begun its third year of operation and in NSW there was over 64 million vouchers collected and almost $2.5 million worth of equipment donated to the 2,235 schools participating last year.
