Armed robber chased down street by g-string hero
AN ARMED robber, who was chased down the street by a near naked but determined resident, has been sentenced to two years probation with community service.
Damian Barry Lewis was armed with a knife when he broke into the Centrepoint unit complex on Stephenson St last year.
A 47-year-old, who was living in the unit, woke to a loud noise and found Lewis in his hallway.
The Chronicle previously reported that despite wearing only a g-string, the man chased Lewis down the stairs and onto the street yelling out "man with a knife...call the police."
The dog squad was called in and Lewis was soon found hiding out near the bike corridor.
The Hervey Bay Magistrates Court heard that on another occasion, police were able to match Lewis's DNA to a cigarette butt left behind in a home which had been broken into and stripped of various electronic items.
A raid of his home uncovered a marijuana plant, a knife and stolen goods.
Lewis faced more than 10 charges including producing dangerous drugs and going armed to cause fear.
His lawyer, John Milburn, told the court his client had previously enjoyed volunteering with Lifeline and at the Glendyne farm.
He said he planned to make a fresh start in Brisbane and volunteer with the Lions Club.
