Man dies after being hit by a truck on the Bruce Highway

UPDATE 3.20PM

A MAN has died after being hit by a truck on the Bruce Highway earlier this afternoon.

Emergency services rushed to the scene after the accident was reported around 1.15pm near the Steve Irwin Way on-ramp at Beerburrum on the Bruce Highway.

Southbound traffic was diverted through nearby Johnson Rd to clear the highway for the RACQ Careflight Rescue Helicopter to land just after 1.30pm.

The pedestrian, a 30-year-old man, was declared dead on the scene.

A Queensland Police Media spokesperson said investigations were continuing into the incident.

"It is a non-suspicious fatal," the spokesperson said.

"We are not sure exactly if it was an accident or self-harm.

"It will be subject to a forensic crash unit investigation."

The spokesperson said on Monday afternoon the man was yet to be identified so his next of kin could be notified of the tragedy.

The right hand southbound lane was opened to traffic just after 2pm and traffic is now flowing freely.

UPDATE 2PM:

TRAFFIC traveling south on the Bruce Highway is being diverted along Johnson Rd to allow the RACQ Careflight Rescue Helicopter to land in the southbound lanes.

The Queensland Police Service has tweeted the serious traffic crash had happened just before the Steve Irwin Way exit on the Bruce Highway at Beerburrum.

Earlier the Queensland Ambulance Service tweeted that a pedestrian had been hit by a truck and had multiple injuries.

EARLIER 1.25pm:

A RESCUE helicopter has been tasked to land on the Bruce Highway to assist with a two-vehicle accident.

The details are still coming through, but it is believed the south-bound lanes near the Beerburrum on-ramp will be closed to allow the helicopter to land.

The accident was first reported just after 1pm.

Motorists planning to travel on the Bruce Highway should consider travelling along Steve Irwin Way.
