Hendra research program rolling out
A MULTI-million dollar research program into the cause of the deadly hendra virus is set to be rolled out in regional areas that house large numbers of flying foxes.
The link between flying fox colonies and the virus will be the focus of the project which has been funded by the Qld, NSW, and Federal Governments in the wake of the most recent outbreaks.
NSW Minister for Primary Industries Katrina Hodgkins said on Friday that this week's cases in Rockhampton and Ingham were a timely reminder of the need to protect communities from the virus.
She said study groups would work from six different ports including Menangle and Wollongbar.
