Here’s a way to save cash while saving water
JUST because water is falling by the bucket load from our skies, there is no reason for it to be doing the same from our taps and shower heads.
Tweed Shire Council is offering a 50% rebate, with a maximum of $100, on eligible water saving shower heads, basin and sink spouts, mixers, aerators and flow controllers/regulators.
Anthony Burnham, Council's Acting Director of Community and Natural Resources said the program had already been a great success.
"A total of 302 showers, 229 spouts/mixers and 617 aerators have already been installed in these homes and the estimated total water saving based on these figures is about 5.36 million litres of water per year," Mr Burnham said.
On average, every household can save at least 15,000 litres of water a year and around $100 on the annual water bill, so it is well worth the effort in the long run.
A licensed Plumber must install the water saving device, shower heads have to be 3-star WELS rated with an average flow rate of 7.5 to 9 litres per minute.
Spouts, mixers, aerators and flow controllers/regulators must be 4-star WELS rated with an average flow rate of 6to 7.5 litres per minute.
