Here’s hoping good times roll on for North Coast farmers

THERE'S an old saying "every dog has its day" and at the moment North Coast primary producers are enjoying improved prices and a terrific season.

Producers of cattle, macadamias, ti-tree and many other farmers are experiencing good times.

One elderly cattleman told me he never thought he'd live long enough to see cattle prices as high as this.

It has been a huge turnaround for the cattle market in the past 14 months with prices more than doubling in most cases.

Farmers are now thinking about spending a bit of money on farm improvements, including fencing and weed control, where previously there was no money to spend.

"Experts" in the cattle market are predicting the prices to be good for the next two years but there's sure to be a few hiccups along the way.

The Lismore Saleyards are attracting a consistent number each week of vealers and cows, while the store cattle sales are seeing big numbers of buyers and good lines of cattle each month.

On Saturday, a special breeder sale will be held at the Lismore. Angus, brangus, charbray, simbrah, santa and pregnancy-tested heifers will be on offer.
