Hervey Bay cast in Nordic movie

HERVEY BAY will feature in a new Scandinavian film due for release later this year.

Cameramen and crew were in town last week collecting footage for the production that portrays an alcoholic fly fisherman emotionally lost in Hervey Bay.

Norwegian novelist and celebrity fly fisherman Lars Lenth, who plays the fly-fishing drunk, and who crew described as "the Hemingway of Scandinavian film," said he was excited to be part of the project.

"It's a story about a group of Scandinavian guys who travel around the world looking for a former champion fisherman who has fallen off the rails and become a drunk," Lars said.

"The fisherman is living in Hervey Bay when the guys find him and they try to save him and get him fishing again."

Lars said creators of the film Rolf Nylinder and Peter Christensen enjoyed recent success with the feature Backyard in Nowhere, which also played in Australia.

He said the upcoming feature was assured of exposure with the second biggest selling Norwegian newspaper, VG, taking it onboard.

He said it would also be shown on television in Scandinavia as a four-episode telemovie.

Local guide Paul Dolan, who operates Fraser Coast Sportsfishing, played a part in the film, guiding crew through local waters in scenes critical to the plot.

"They wanted to sight cast on the flats and they were amazed at the sight casting potential at Hervey Bay," Paul said.

"We got some excellent queenfish, longtail tuna and mack tuna - they will come out again and chase some golden trevally."
