High praise, award for FFNC referee

FOOTBALL Far North Coast referee Luke Mackney was awarded a Life Membership at the Annual Referee's Dinner in Lismore last weekend.

The 24-year-old surveyor drew the attention of prominent football judges earlier this year and as such officiated at the National Schoolboys Championships in Perth and the National League youth trial at Newcastle in August.

His exploits drew praise from National Referee's convener Barry Such, who advised Mackney to start taking control of metropolitan competitions in 2010.

His most recent achievement was an appointment to the National Youth League Panel along with fellow FFNC referee, Ben Haigh, while Tanya De Boer was chosen on the W-League Panel.

Barry Such - a former Lismore local and FFNC Referees Life Member himself - urged those in attendance to “use Luke, Ben and Tanya as role models in the manner in which they conduct themselves”.
