High school staffer suffers head injury in boat fall

A TWEED River High School staff member was injured during a marine studies class at the Tweed River near Dry Dock Rd today.

Tweed Heads police Inspector Gary Cowan attended the scene and said the female staffer fell overboard and in an attempt to hold onto the hull, hit her head on the tinny which was being used to ferry students to a river location where they were snorkelling.

A Westpac Rescue Helicopter was tasked with rescuing the woman about 2pm however the crew was called off the job once details of the incident became clear.

A NSW Education department spokesman said the woman was taken to Tweed Hospital with minor head injuries, but this was mainly precautionary.

Although police assume the event was an accident, the incident is being investigated in cooperation with Roads and Maritime Services.
