Hilfenhaus magic sinks Scorchers

THE Perth Scorchers' high-profile top order capitulated in embarrassing fashion to hand the Hobart Hurricanes a 31-run Twenty20 Big Bash win at the WACA6 Ground on Sunday night.

The Scorchers were well placed to achieve victory after dismissing the Hurricanes for a meek 140 in 19.3 overs.

But a superb bowling effort from former Test paceman Ben Hilfenhaus (2-10 off four overs) swung the match well and truly the visitors' way, with Perth's prized recruits Herschelle Gibbs (2), Simon Katich (8), Mike Hussey (0) and Paul Collingwood (4) all failing to fire.

At 5-44 in the 11th over there was no coming back for the Scorchers, who were eventually bowled out for 109 in 19.5 overs despite the best efforts of Mitch Marsh (35 off 36) and Nathan Rimmington (22 off 14).

Hilfenhaus was simply unplayable at times, with his testing pace and notable swing helping him snare the scalps of Gibbs and Katich.
