Mayor says hiring of new Tweed council GM on fast track

THE hiring of a new general manager for Tweed Shire Council is on the fast track, according to the mayor Barry Longland.

Following an investigation into the sacking of former GM David Keenan by the Division of Local Government, the division recommended that an independent facilitator should be engaged to recruit the new GM.

Cr Longland said he and his fellow councillors supported recommendation.

"We will engage Management Solutions through Local Government NSW," he said.

Mr Keenan's recruitment was also conducted through another independent facilitator.

"We expect to start the process this week," Cr Longland said.

"The preliminary process will begin, including getting the selection criteria up-to-date."

He said the council would work with the recruitment organisation.

"We will be moving fast," he said.
