Car hits, injures hitchhiker

A HITCHHIKER was taken to hospital after being hit by a car at Condong.

About 8.50pm Wednesday a 44-year-old Nobbys Creek man was walking north along Tweed Valley Way.

Tweed police inspector Greg Carey said it was believed he was hitchhiking and intoxicated.

“A car drove past and it is believed the pedestrian may have had some part of his body protruding which came into contact with the car,” Insp Carey said.

“The driver stopped a short distance ahead and as she was a young, unaccompanied driver she contacted her family who contacted police.”

Insp Carey said police searched the area but could not find the man.

“Inquiries revealed there was an ambulance at a nearby residence in Condong,” he said.

“We believe the pedestrian walked across the highway to the residence.

“Paramedics treated the man for a suspected broken right wrist and he was taken to hospital. Police are investigating whether or not alcohol was a factor with the pedestrian.

A Northern NSW Local Health Network spokes-woman said the man was discharged yesterday morning.

Investigations are continuing.
