Hits a girl and unit block then hits road before being caught

A MAN has been charged over an alleged assault and dangerous driving in Coffs Harbour on Sunday night.

About 9pm on Sunday, a 27-year-old man attended a car park on Ocean Pde at Coffs Harbour where he allegedly assaulted a 21-year-old woman.

The man then returned to his vehicle and drove a short distance to Vincent St where it's alleged he drove into the front of a unit block.

It's further alleged the man then attempted to hit a member of the public who had witnessed the crash.

Officers attached to Coffs/Clarence Local Area Command attended the location and became involved in a foot pursuit with the man through bushland near Ocean Pde.

Police arrested the man a short time later and he was taken to Coffs Harbour Police Station.

A crime scene was established at the residence on Vincent St and the vehicle was seized from the nearby car park and taken for forensic examination.

The woman was taken to hospital for treatment to facial injuries and she has since been discharged.

The man was later charged with assault occasioning actual bodily harm, contravene AVO, destroy or damage property, drive while licence cancelled, drive in a manner dangerous, negligent driving and armed with intent to commit indictable offence.

He was refused bail and appeared before Coffs Harbour Bail Court on Australia Day, where he was remanded in custody to reappear on Tuesday.
