HAWTHORN skipper Luke Hodge has been cleared of any wrongdoing in the clash with his opposite number Marc Murphy on Friday night that left the Carlton skipper with a fractured cheekbone.

The Match Review Panel assessed the collison, but determined Hodge had "no realistic alternative way to contest the ball".

He was hit with a level one, engaging in rough conduct offence, however, for an incident with Blues defender Lachie Henderson in the second quarter of the match at Etihad Stadium.

Hodge will be free to play against West Coast on Friday night with an early guilty plea.
