Hogan supports stripping dual citizenship from terrorists

KEVIN Hogan was unveiling a war memorial when he learnt of the Paris terrorist attacks and the mounting death toll on Saturday.

With those horrors still fresh in his mind, the Member for Page reaffirmed his support for the Federal Government's tough stance on terrorism.

Federal Parliament will start debating next week whether dual citizens caught supporting or engaging in terrorism should be stripped of their Australian citizenship.

"It certainly has my support," he said.

"If you're fighting with ISIS or involved in some other terrorist activity, we will revoke your citizenship."

Lawyers and human rights groups have criticised the move as an erosion of human rights.

But Mr Hogan said the attacks on Paris proved the threat of terrorism must not be taken lightly.

"Like everyone else, I'm devastated for the people of France," he said.

"Psychologically, these things can be really damaging to a city and a country.

"It's just so sad, and my thoughts and prayers are very much with the victims' families."
