Holiday drivers told to take care around rail crossings
THE rail industry has warned holiday drivers to take care around level crossings when travelling this festive season.
TrackSAFE director Bryan Nye said it only took a few seconds of inattention at a level crossing for a Christmas holiday to end in tragedy.
At level crossings around the country, trains have right of way and cannot stop quickly.
Mr Nye said it was vital driver obeyed every level crossing signs and signals.
"A train clearly cannot stop in time so if you take a risk at a level crossing it could be your last," he said.
TrackSAFE was launched in march to increase safety on the rail network, in an effort to lower the number of rail incident in Australia.
