Mavis's Kitchen final stop on Tweed foodie tasting tour
MAVIS'S Kitchen will get on board the Tweed Foodie Fest as the end destination to the Tweed Tasting Tour on Saturday June 14.
Co-owner Charlie Ebell said the Foodie Fest would be a great opportunity to showcase the Tweed Valley.
"At Mavis's Kitchen, we sow most of our food," Mr Ebell said.
Mr Ebell said what they can't grow themselves is sourced on a nearby farm.
"We're very aware of food miles," Mr Ebell said.
"We have someone who grows organically for us in Uki."
Their awareness isn't confined to the food; Mr Ebell said they'll pass on Italian wine for a local drop.
"A lot of our wine is from NSW," he said.
"We also have Stone and Wood beer, and some from Burleigh Brewing Co."
"A lot of people just take it off the shelf for convenience."
"People need to know where their food comes from - and people don't."
"We like to sow the little seed of people growing their own food."
"We like people to know where their food is coming from."
Most of the meat at Mavis's kitchen is free range and organic.
"It's wonderful to see a farmer's market thriving," he said.
"That's what the Foodie Fest is all about."
"People don't realise how lucky we are to live in this area."
