Home lost in blaze

GOLD Coast police are investigating the cause of a fire that destroyed a home at Robina early on Saturday morning.

Police and firefighters were called to the house fire on Manly Dr about 2am and, despite the efforts of firemen, the blaze caused extensive damage to the low-set brick house.

Police said the owners of the home were away at the time of the fire and no-one was injured.

The fire is being treated as suspicious at this stage and further examinations took place yesterday.

It is believed a couple in their 70s who live at the house were in Cairns at the time.

Most of the house, except for one room and the garage, was destroyed.

Police are urging anyone with any information to call Crimestoppers on 1800 333 000 .
