Hope renewed for Potty school

A POTTSVILLE residents group has expressed renewed faith in the state government funding a high school for the town after a meeting with MPs yesterday.

About 30 parents and residents met with federal Labor MP for Richmond Justine Elliot and state Labor MP Walt Secord to convince the party to support a high school for the area.

Resident and father Troy Potter said he was pleased Mrs Elliot and Mr Secord were both in favour of the proposal.

"I'm a realist, there's not much they can do about it in opposition, the aim was just to give them some more information," Mr Potter said.

"They have promised to start asking more pointed questions on our behalf in parliament.

"The pressure isn't just on Geoff Provest and the government it's now on the opposition to for both of them to honour their commitments."

Mr Potter said the meeting kept the issue moving in the right direction.

"I'm quietly confident things are moving along, but we still have no commitment from the government and no plans with the department."

Mr Secord said he was calling strongly on Tweed MP Geoff Provest to honour his promise to deliver a high school for the area.

"Some of the kids are travelling an hour each way to get to school," Mr Secord said.

"They are leaving home at 7.15am and getting home at 4.30pm and that's not good enough.

"It's a rapidly growing community.

"I think they have a good case for a high school and I'm pleased to support them in that campaign."
