Horror smash on Tweed Valley Way

AN 82-year-old woman was trapped in her Ford Laser for half-an-hour after a crash on Tweed Valley Way this morning.

Two cars involved in the 8.20am Tumbulgum collision were mangled, but the drivers involved managed to escape without serous injury.

A New South Wales Ambulance spokesman said spinal injury precautions were taken for both patients, who were transported in a stable condition.

The woman was suffering shoulder pains, while the man complained of neck pain.

There were no other people involved in the accident, which caused some minor traffic disruptions for an hour.

Jamie Stoddart from Tweed District Rescue Squad said the crash could have been much worse.
