Hospital walls to have kids' work

THE walls of Murwillumbah Hospital are bursting with colour after receiving some very special children’s paintings.

Last Friday the hospital was presented with 10 pieces of art as part of the Operation Art program associated with The Children’s Hospital at Westmead.

Altogether 665 kids took part in the project which was then short listed to 50 for a touring exhibition.

Murwillumbah Hospital nurse unit manager Debbie Dawes said she was pleasantly surprised when she was told the hospital had been selected to receive the artworks.

“I am shocked that we were selected to be honest, mainly because we are a smaller unit but I really appreciate the thought,” Ms Dawes said.

“Having the artworks donated is a real positive for the children, it brightens them up and it is encouraging for them.”

Operation Art coordinator Fiona Steel said the works had been created to bring a world of colour and imagination into the lives of young patients.
