Hot fields to feature in race
THE declaration of acceptances for Sunday's Murwillumbah Cup meeting has revealed capacity fields for the day's big three feature events.
Twelve starters, with four emergencies at the ready, line-up in each of the $20,000 WHK-Sky Racing Gold Newmarket (1200m), the Glider Classic (1200m), as well as the main event, the $28,000 Casella Wines Murwillumbah Cup (2000m).
Missing from the list of acceptances for the Cup is Warrior Within, winner of the Cup Prelude and recent placegetter in the Ipswich Cup.
Present are those who finished just behind Warrior Within in the Prelude, placegetters Mr Gold Fire and Yummy.
As expected, Newmarket Prelude winner Prince Lionheart will be one of the starters for the Newmarket.
However, such is the depth of talent in the race that 2008 victor Borsha's Warrior has only managed a berth as second emergency, despite being a winner at his most recent start.
Indeed, the four top weighted horses have won close to $1,000,000 in prizemoney between them.
Cardinal Virtue will lead them out carrying 58 kg.
In the two-year-old Glider Classic handicap, top weight Far Dooley has drawn the outside barrier, a less than perfect alley for the 1200m journey at Murwillumbah.
The undefeated King Of Danes gelding is looking to defend his perfect record after taking out his only race at Lismore last month.
The traditional Cup calcutta will be held tomorrow night at the Court House Hotel starting from 7.30pm.
The evening will be hosted by racing personality Gary Kliese and racecaller Rod Fuller, together with TRJC chairman Bernie Quinn.
Proceeds raised will aid the Murwillumbah Hospital Auxiliary.
