How a ball boy stole the spotlight from Tim Cahill

CENTRAL Coast's cheeky young ball boy headed to the Mariners' clash with Melbourne City with a little plan amongst his mates.

That dare, to remove the corner flag if there was to be a trademark Tim Cahill celebration, not only had A-League fans in stitches. His epic troll has earned the youngster - who credits the Socceroos legend as one of his heroes - his 15 minutes of fame as a New Year's Eve global sensation.

Not only did he have the guts to pull of the prank, but, he did not bat an eye lid as Cahill threw his flurry of punches.

The banter has been picked up across the globe - even sitting as the second most popular story on Fox Sports US's football website.

The game in Gosford ended in a 2-2 draw, after the hosts came back to lead 2-1 with five minutes left.

But a 90th-minute penalty was coolly converted by City's Bruno Fornaroli after a Mariners defensive lapse.
