Huegill: Take opportunities when they come along

OLYMPIC swimming champion Geoff Huegill, who grew up in Mackay, says he is proud to receive an honorary Masters of Sports Science degree from CQ University.

He was amongst about 100 graduates in a ceremony held in Mackay today.

"Thirty years ago here in Mackay is where my swimming career actually started so to think 30 years ago that I'd be able to receive a masters in sports science from my sport is something I'm really proud of," he said.

Huegill was also guest speaker at the ceremony and used the opportunity to reflect on the importance of taking opportunities life throws at you.

"My career has been balanced by a lot of highs and lows and that's ultimately what life is about," he said.

"You can have some of the best education in the world or you can have no education in the world but I think life is about taking opportunities when they come, which is probably the most important thing."
