Hundreds rally at Kingscliff to save our sharks
SAVE Our Sharks Rally organisers are stoked after a strong turnout at Kingscliff on Saturday, where they peacefully protested the culling of sharks in Western Australia.
Now they want to turn their attention closer to home.
"The shark nets are no good and there are other ways and things to do to deter sharks from our beaches," organiser Andrew Archer said.
Mr Archer said he could not have hoped for a better outcome, with over 300 people marching through the main street.
"The march was a great success and we had SOS spelt out on the beach perfectly," he said.
Committed to the cause, Mr Archer was in Kingscliff three hours before the event started.
"We were down there at 9am spreading the word and you know what, there was not one negative comment from anyone we spoke with," he said.
Five guest speakers from different fields with the common goal of stopping shark culls spoke for about an hour on different aspects regarding the importance of preserving the endangered species.
"All five speakers were great and had a lot of very good points and information for the crowd," Mr Archer said.
"We are having a meeting shortly which will involve organizing another Rally in the near future on the coast."
