Hunt for illegal border crosser
THE NSW Department of Primary Industries wants to identify the driver who towed a horse-float illegally over the NSW-Queensland border early Thursday morning.
The vehicle's registration was concealed when it was photographed crossing the border.
Director agricultural compliance with NSW DPI, Dr Andrew Sanger, said the driver of the vehicle had made an effort not to be recognised.
"The vehicle's registration plates have been intentionally covered, the driver has hidden his face with a hat and the movement was in the early hours of the morning," Dr Sanger said.
The DPI's regional public affairs officer Phil Bevan said Queensland livestock threaten the cattle industry in NSW when they are taken over the border without submitting to a check.
Mr Bevan said ticks are endemic to Queensland's ecosystem but have the potential to spread disease to NSW cattle if they cross the border.
