Teen high on ice and alcohol, stabs stranger

A TEENAGER was high on ice and alcohol when he stabbed a stranger in Cootharaba Rd, Gympie on April 8, the Gympie District Court was told this week.

Zackaria Dallas Packer will have an 18-month jail sentence hanging over his head, but was released on immediate parole for unlawful wounding on Wednesday.

The Court was told Gympie man Craig McLean had been walking up the street to meet a friend when he noticed a parked car, in which a man and a woman, Packer and his mother, were arguing.

Packer, 17, attacked McLean, threatening to cut his throat and slashing his arm, in the delusional belief that McLean had stolen his childhood swing set.

He punched McLean seven times, held a knife to his throat and slashed at him, causing a deep laceration that required nine stitches.

The Court was told McLean escaped by jumping into his friend's car and telling him to call the police and ambulance.

A police statement provided to the court said officers found Packer sitting in the middle of Cootharaba Rd saying: "He stole my, he stole my swing set."

Packer's legal representative said Packer was on ice and alcohol at the time and had since given up the drug.

McLean suffered injuries said to be consistent with being repeatedly punched in the left eye and cut with a knife.

They included a minor cut on his throat and a major 10cm laceration on his left forearm, as well as swelling around his eye.
