Ideas aplenty at Tweed Chamber business breakfast
A PACKED house was on hand for the Tweed Heads Chamber of Commerce's monthly meet on Tuesday.
Tweed Shire Councillor Warren Polglase told the gathering he was excited about the opening of a new brewery in Murwillumbah this week.
Chamber secretary Maggie-Anne Leybourne announced the chamber would be giving Point Danger Marine Rescue a $500 donation.
Joanne Simonelli, of Evolve Compliance Partners, spoke about the importance of ensuring workplace health and safety standards were up to date.
Karen Collins, the council's aged and disability development officer, spoke about the mostly cost-free steps businesses could undertake to ensure they are accessible to all.
She explained that in the past census, 20,175 people or 23.7% identified as living with a disability in Tweed.
"We want to dispel stigma and discrimination and make our community one of the best to live in," she said.
Fernando Lemos, of Yellow Brick Road, led a group exercise on marketing the Tweed business community.
This included ideas such as embracing Tweed's title of "God's waiting room," changing the name of the Northern Rivers to the "Green Coast" and offering holiday prizes to those who shop locally.
The next chamber breakfast meet will be on June 10.
